Logan : An opportunity lost

Renault Logan was hailed as the people's car in Europe when it was launched back in 2004. It was what was describes as modern, reliable and affordable. True to what was claimed, it became an instant hit. It was launched in India in a JV between M&M and Renault. Being the lowest priced car in its segment, it drew instant comparison with legendary M800. But a year later this euphoria around the next people's car started to die in India. It was a bestseller in its class, never was it reported for bad quality but it just didn't go down well. Reason's are numerous, many of which could have been controlled by the JV but, few days back this JV fell apart which pretty much wrapped up the story. In my opinion the main reason was positioning. It was positioned as highly affordable car with limited set of features. But when the competition struck back at Logan, the parent company just did not respond to it.They just left Logan as it was.the advantage which it had gained due to positioning was all lost. It was very simple to begin with and it stayed that way. Logan never had those looks which would have made you turn back to see her.In a look crazy Indian market that was a catastrophe. Combined with very basic features it was a very raw package. To go with that almost zero presence of advertising just made the things go worse.Compare to the fact that M&M was highly advertising its own stable.
Today i write on Logan just to express my views on what could have been modern India's car for common people and all it turned out to be is a big dud.
